Greetings and Thank you for visiting our website!

Introduction

Agate Bay Lodge is owned and operated by Greg & Tammy Bolinski.  We are new to the Lodge business, with both of us leaving jobs in the corporate world to pursue this dream.  We have three kids, Mike (17), Dave (16), and Michelle (14).  All three are pretty excited about this venture.

As a family we made our first trip to Ontario two years ago.  From that very first trip we were hooked.  The fishing, scenery, and the tranquility was amazing.  It was the type of trip that you think about for the next fifty-one weeks, dreaming of the last trip, and anticipating the next.

Upon returning from Ontario, Greg started searching the internet, looking for Lodges that were up for sale.  After two years of looking he came across Agate Bay Resort.  After viewing it on the internet, and discussing if this was something we really wanted to do, we made the decision to view the property.

It was mid-November 2002, we met the real estate agent in Thunder Bay, and proceeded to the property.  Now we anticipated that it would be a bit cooler then our residence in Racine... but there was already a foot of snow on the ground, and it was snowing while we were there.   Maybe the snow added that little extra, but the Lodge was everything we were looking for.   We have a lot of work ahead of us improving the cabins and facitilties, but from a potential standpoint... it had the primary items we were looking for.

First and foremost, it was on a quality fishery.  Agate Bay Lodge is on Pagwachuan Lake (pronounced Pag Washin).  The lake is well known for Lake Trout and Walleye, but also contains Northern, Speckled (Brook) Trout, Whitefish, Perch, Burbot, with some Lake Strugeon known to be present also.  The lake contains a good forage base of ciscoe and herring, giving the potential for large fish, and also sustaining solid populations.  It is also the only lodge on the lake.  There are a few other personal properties on the lake, but fishing pressure is low.

So in January of 2003, we closed on the property.  We have kept the base of the name intact, but are using Agate Bay Lodge, instead of resort.  To us this is a fishing lodge, and Agate Bay Lodge seemed much more appropriate.

Our Vision

The type of lodge we intend to have is the type we prefer to visit.   Overall we prefer to keep the number of cabins, and the total number of guests low.  We don't want a lodge that will have hundreds of other guests, and we never get the chance to know all our guests.  For you the fisherman, it gives you the chance to have the vacation you wanted.  Spending time with your family or friends, fishing without crowds, enjoying the scenery, the quiet, and just getting away from everything.  It's your chance to unwind and enjoy yourself.

We want each guest to have a great experience, looking forward to that return trip.  If you fish, we will do everything to get you fish, without having to pay for a guide.   We love to fish ourselves, and are willing to share information with fellow fisherman and fisherwomen.    Upon arrival, our fishing seminar will point you to the spots they've been biting, and the type of bait or lures that have been working.

If you prefer canoeing and scenery, there are many streams and a river that flow in and out of Pagwachuan Lake.  Just check a map of the area, and you will see all the potential oppourtunities for canoeing.

Come and grow with us

Drop us a note, we would love to talk about fishing and what is in store for the coming season.  This is your oppourtunity to get a select date, and start your journey to a dream vacation.  Thanks for visiting and we hope to hear from you soon.

Have a great day,
